We hand out six game balls to the San Francisco 49ers after their first win of the season — a 31-21 victory over the New York Giants.
HC Kyle Shanahan
Shanahan waited 10 weeks for his first victory, and received a mini-Gatorade shower for his efforts. Shanahan — still a player favorite — hasn’t lost the 49ers’ locker room, and looks to soon add to his head-coach victory total.
FS Adrian Colbert
Colbert — a seventh-round rookie — filled in admirably at free safety for injured safeties Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt. Colbert continued to display his range and big-hitting ability, and has likely earned a significant role on the team in 2018.
QB C.J. Beathard
Beathard — in perhaps his last start of the season — won his first game of his short NFL career. Beathard played his best game as a pro, throwing two touchdowns and rushing for a third. The rookie quarterback finished the game with 288 yards passing and a 123.4 quarterback rating.
San Francisco 49ers’ Run Game
The offensive line’s run blocking wasn’t great, but running backs Carlos Hyde and Matt Breida ran hard and took advantage of every crease. The 49ers finished the game with 186 yards on the ground, most of which came after contact.
DE Ronald Blair
In his second game back from injury, Blair had a career game, sacking Giants quarterback Eli Manning twice, and forcing one fumble. Look for Blair to continue to take advantage of increased playing time due to the team’s injuries on the defensive line.
WR Marquise Goodwin
Goodwin had only one catch on the day, but it was perhaps the 49ers’ play of the game. The 83-yard catch-and-run was the 49ers’ first touchdown, and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Goodwin — who was noticeably emotional after the score — later told fans that he and his wife lost their son earlier that morning due to complications in her pregnancy.
