We break down the latest three picks of the annual Locked on 49ers Mock Draft, and take a look at the players available for the San Francisco 49ers at pick No. 9.

With the first eight picks of the annual Locked on 49ers Mock Draft in the bag, the San Francisco 49ers are on the clock! Let’s break down the last three picks of the mock draft, and then we’ll take a look at potential options for 49ers GM-for-a-day Nick Winkler.

Check out last week’s article for a recap of the first five picks:

1. Cleveland Browns

Jeff Lloyd of Locked on Browns selects Sam Darnold, QB, USC.

2. New York Giants

Patricia Traina of Locked on Giants selects Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame.

3. New York Jets

John Butchko of Locked on Jets selects Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA.

4. Cleveland Browns

Jeff Lloyd of Locked on Browns selects Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College.

5. Denver Broncos

Cody Roark of Locked on Broncos selects Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma.

And now, for the next three picks:

6. Indianapolis Colts

Host Brian Peacock, standing in for the Colts, selects Bradley Chubb, EDGE, NC State.

After exploring potential trades, Brian goes Best Player Available and drafts a player who, until quite recently, was the consensus top pass rusher in the draft. The Colts make out like bandits in this mock draft, selecting a player often mocked to the team at pick No. 3, prior to the Colts’ trade with the Jets.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Trevor Sikkema of Locked on NFL Draft selects Derwin James, S, Florida State.

Trevor drafts the versatile defensive back James, who has the ability to line up at a variety of positions on the field, including safety and nickel cornerback, and can even drop into the box as a stacked linebacker or blitz off the edge. Although James is somewhat of a player without a true position, his athleticism will likely give him the opportunity to be an impact player at the NFL-level, no matter where he plays on the field.

8. Chicago Bears

Lorin Cox of Locked on Bears selects Roquan Smith, LB, Alabama.

With Nelson off the board, Lorin snatches up linebacker Roquan Smith just one selection before the LB-needy Niners are on the clock. Smith — the country’s top college linebacker in 2017 — had similar combine measurables to the 49ers’ Patrick Willis, and is a plug-and-play starter for the Bears at inside linebacker in 2018.

9. San Francisco 49ers

Nick Winkler of Locked on 49ers selects…

Earlier this week, Locked on 49ers Podcast host Brian Peacock released his 49ers NFL Draft Big Board, which groups the team’s top prospects into four tiers. Both members of the first tier have been drafted, and only two members of the second tier remain on the board: defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. Otherwise, all players on Brian’s Big Board are available for selection.

Two top prospects – running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Josh Allen — are also available for a team willing to trade up for the 49ers’ top pick.

Will Nick stick to Brian’s 49ers NFL Draft Big Board, or will he throw a curve ball at pick No. 9? With the future of Winky Wednesday on the line, tune in to the Locked on 49ers Podcast tomorrow for Nick’s pick in the annual Locked on 49ers Mock Draft.
